Every community reaches a moment when someone proposes an idea that seems just ambitious enough to make people pause.

I've heard that question many times while documenting North Texas through drone services and aerial imagery. Whether I'm filming a new development, highlighting a local business or capturing a community celebration from above, there's almost always a conversation about possibility. Can this city support it? Is the timing right? Will people embrace it?

Living in Celina, those questions have become familiar.

Yes, the community continues to grow. New businesses open their doors almost weekly, and families continue choosing Celina because they want more than a place to live. They want to belong.

So when Rodeo Soccer Club (Rodeo SC) announced it was bringing a soccer organization to Celina, some naturally asked, "Why?"

After spending time with President and Founder Ben Watson before the opening of the Rodeo SC Fan Zone for the World Cup in Downtown Celina, I found myself asking a different question.

Why not?

More Than a Soccer Club

During our conversation, Ben shared pieces of the journey that eventually led to Rodeo SC. Like many entrepreneurs I've met while telling stories across North Texas, his path wasn't a straight line.

His dream was once to play on soccer's biggest stage. That pursuit came with sacrifices few people ever see. There were seasons when money was scarce, injuries interrupted opportunities and uncertainty became part of everyday life. Ben even shared there were days he found himself eating food off a cardboard box while chasing that dream.

For many people, those moments become the end of the story.

For Ben, they became part of it.

Supported by his wife, family and the people who believed alongside him, he continued moving forward. While the destination changed, the purpose never did.

That perspective helps explain why Rodeo SC feels different.

It's reflected in the club's identity from the very beginning.

Most soccer organizations lean toward traditional names and familiar colors. Rodeo SC intentionally chose a different path. The name honors the heritage that helped shape Celina while creating something unmistakably local. The colors are equally intentional, giving the club its own personality while inviting the entire community to feel connected to it.

Nothing about the identity feels accidental.

It reflects a thoughtful decision to honor what has already been built in Celina while creating space for a new tradition.

That same intentionality carries into the experiences Rodeo SC has created. The World Cup watch parties and Fan Zone brought families into Downtown Celina to enjoy soccer, food and time together. The turf field created a place where children could play while parents and neighbors connected nearby.

It was not simply about watching a match.

It was about creating a gathering place.

During one of the 38 days of World Cup Soccer, I attended Rodeo SC's signing day for club players, and the excitement was contagious. Young athletes proudly signed their commitments while families celebrated beside them. Community members who had never met before found themselves cheering for the same dream.

While the Fan Zone was created to celebrate the World Cup, its purpose was always bigger than the tournament itself. The final match may close that chapter, but the relationships, vision and momentum behind Rodeo SC are only beginning.

One image continues to stay with me before the Rodeo SC Fan Zone opened.

After the turf field was installed, I watched Ben kicking a soccer ball around with children long before the FanZone opened. No spotlight. No announcement. Just kids laughing, parents smiling and a leader investing time where it mattered most.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen when there is no planned event.

The View From Above

One lesson I've learned through aerial storytelling is that perspective changes everything.

From the air, streets become neighborhoods. Neighborhoods become communities. Businesses become gathering places. Individual stories become something much larger than themselves.

The same is true in leadership.

Sometimes we're so focused on reaching the goal that we forget we're building something along the way.

I've noticed that same pattern while working with small business owners, developers and entrepreneurs throughout North Texas. Many didn't begin because life unfolded exactly as they planned. Some experienced layoffs. Others navigated personal challenges or uncertain seasons.

What unites them isn't perfect circumstances.

It's the courage to pursue an idea anyway.

Celina has already demonstrated what soccer can mean to a community. For years, residents have rallied behind championship teams, celebrating not only wins but the young people representing their hometown.

Rodeo SC simply builds on that foundation by creating another opportunity where families can gather, children can dream and neighbors can connect.

That's why I believe the better question has never been, "Why a soccer club?"

It's always been, "Why not?"

Every meaningful story begins when someone is willing to imagine something that doesn't exist yet.

As I continue documenting North Texas through aerial imagery and visual storytelling, I'm reminded that the projects worth remembering rarely begin with certainty. They begin with conviction.

Along with Ben, Jacob West, the CEO and Principal Owner and everyone behind Rodeo SC chose to believe that soccer could become another thread in Celina's story. Not simply another team, but another place where community is strengthened one relationship at a time.

That's more than a goal.

That's a legacy worth building.

And one worth celebrating together.
