Ready Before I Knew Why
It is interesting how people ask where something started, as if there is always a clear beginning.
For me, the question usually comes in a simple form. What made you want to become a drone pilot?
For a long time, I answered that question by saying it was a dream job. And while that is true, I have come to realize that the real answer is more layered. It is not just about what I wanted to do. It is about how certain moments come together at the right time to shape something I did not fully understand yet.
One of those moments happened on Easter morning in 2024.
At the time, I was attending One Community Church in Plano. I had been practicing drone flights, learning and building confidence in the air. It was something I enjoyed, but I had not yet connected it to something bigger. There was no business. No formal direction. Just a growing interest and a willingness to keep showing up.
That morning, something told me to bring my drone to church.
There was no assignment. No expectation. Just a quiet nudge that it might matter.
When I arrived, I noticed a gentleman having trouble with his drone. I walked over and asked if he needed help. His equipment was not working, and after a brief conversation, I told him I had a drone in my car. He asked if I would be willing to capture a drone shot of the church.
I said yes.

It was a simple moment. One flight. One decision to step in and serve. But it became the first time my aerial imagery was used in something meaningful beyond my own practice.
What I did not know that morning was that more than a week later, my life would shift in a way I did not expect.
I was laid off.
In a matter of days, everything changed. The routine I had known, the direction I thought I was on, it all came to a pause. And in that moment, I found myself searching. Not just for another job, but for clarity and purpose.
And what stood out was not a title or a next step.
It was that moment on Easter.
The feeling of serving. The joy of flying. The sense that something meaningful had just taken place, even if I did not fully understand it yet.
I did not have a business at the time. I did not have a plan for drone services or a vision for how aerial imagery could tell stories across North Texas. But I had something to build from.
And sometimes, that is enough.
Over time, that single moment turned into more. More practice. More opportunities. More conversations with businesses, community leaders and real estate professionals. What started as one flight began to grow into something rooted in storytelling, service and perspective.
The work evolved, but the foundation stayed the same.
Be ready. Be present. Be willing to serve.

Fast forward two years.
This past Easter, I had the opportunity to return in a way I never could have imagined. Instead of one location, I was supporting eight campuses on one of the most meaningful weekends of the year. Capturing aerial imagery that reflected not just buildings, but people, energy and community.
It was a full-circle moment.
And in a quiet moment afterward, watching the final video come together, I felt something deeper than accomplishment.
I felt gratitude.
Gratitude for the people who believed in me before there was a business. Gratitude for the opportunity to serve when I did not fully understand where it would lead. Gratitude for the reminder that purpose often shows up in moments that seem small at the time.
Over time, I have come to understand that more clearly. Even the name Lighthouse 828 is rooted in that belief. It comes from Romans 8:28, a reminder that all things work together for good for those who are called according to His purpose. At the time, I could not see how that Easter moment and a layoff could connect. Looking back now, I can see how each piece played a role in shaping something I could not have planned.
There is a lesson in that for all of us.
In business and in growing communities across North Texas, we often feel pressure to have everything figured out. Whether you are building in real estate, launching a business or creating something new, it is easy to believe you need clarity before you take action.
But not every meaningful step begins with a clear plan.
Sometimes it begins with preparation.
Sometimes it begins with consistency.
And sometimes, it begins with simply being ready when the moment finds you.
Drone services and aerial imagery have taught me that perspective changes everything. From above, you see how things connect. How growth unfolds. How individual moments become part of a larger story.
Life and leadership are not that different.
Looking back, Easter 2024 felt like a small moment.
Today, I see it differently.
It was the beginning of something I did not yet understand.
And as I continue to build, serve, and tell stories across North Texas, I carry that lesson with me.
Stay ready.
Because sometimes, you are being prepared for something greater… before you even know why.
At Lighthouse 828 Media, we believe every story deserves the right perspective.
Through drone services and aerial imagery, we help businesses, developers, and communities across North Texas capture growth, tell meaningful stories, and see their work from a new point of view.
If you are looking to document progress, showcase your space, or bring your story to life, we would love to connect.
And if you ever see a drone in the sky nearby, feel free to say hello.
Sometimes the best stories begin with a simple conversation.
