Pei Pei Is in Town: What the Panda Express Grand Opening Says About Preparation, Community and Growth
One of the things I love most about new businesses is the energy they bring with them.
There is something special about opening day. The anticipation. The excitement. The feeling that something new is about to become part of the community.
And when Panda Express comes to town, you know it is going to be a party.
Full disclosure, I've been a fan for years. I can remember making trips just to grab Honey Sesame Chicken Breast with fried rice. But this story is not really about the food.
It's about what happens before the doors open.
Before the Doors Open
A little before the grand opening celebration in Celina, the music was already playing.
Employees were smiling. Final details were being checked. A small crowd had begun gathering near the entrance. The excitement was building even before the first customer stepped inside.
Moments Before Opening: A 360 Tour Panda Express in Celina, Texas
Community leaders, business owners, and residents were beginning to arrive. The mayor was there. The Celina Chamber of Commerce was there. Members of the Celina Police Department stopped by. People who care deeply about this fast-growing North Texas community showed up to welcome a new neighbor.
That's one of the things that makes Celina special.
Growth may bring new restaurants, new neighborhoods, and new opportunities, but relationships are still what bring people together.
The Part Nobody Sees
A few days before the grand opening, I stopped by the restaurant.

The excitement was there, but something else stood out.
Preparation.
The team was focused. Final details were being reviewed. Staff members were working through checklists and making sure everything was ready. Everyone seemed aligned around a single mission: create a great opening experience and provide exceptional service.
It would have been easy to assume the celebration was the story.
Instead, the preparation was the story.
The grand opening simply revealed the work that had already taken place.
In business, people often see the launch, the ribbon-cutting, the announcement, or the finished project. What they rarely see are the countless hours of planning, collaboration, and problem-solving that happen behind the scenes.
Whether you're opening a restaurant, developing a neighborhood, launching a business, or creating a drone storytelling project, success is often determined long before the public sees the final result.
When a Community Shows Up

One of the things I appreciate most about documenting events in North Texas is seeing how communities rally around one another.
The Panda Express grand opening was a perfect example.
The City of Celina turned out. Community leaders showed up. Local businesses stopped by. Residents lined up to welcome a new addition to the community.
The ribbon cutting itself lasted only a few moments, but it represented something bigger.
It reflected the continued growth of Celina and the people who help shape the community every day.
Capturing the Moment

Of course, I couldn't resist documenting the occasion.
If you're wondering whether I "Drone That," the answer is absolutely yes.
I arrived with aerial equipment, cameras and a creative plan. My goal was simple: help create something employees and customers could look back on and remember.
The best part was that it became a collaborative effort.
The Panda Express team was welcoming and supportive throughout the process. Even Pei Pei gave the green light for the videos.
Moments like these remind me that storytelling is always a team effort.
Aerial imagery can showcase a building. Drone services can capture a crowd. Video can preserve a moment.
But the real story is always about people.
What I Learned Before The First Customer Was Served
By the end of the morning, I realized the grand opening wasn't really the story.
It was simply the visible result of everything that came before it.
The preparation.
The teamwork.
The leadership.
The commitment to creating a great customer experience.
Those principles extend far beyond restaurants.
They're the same qualities that build successful businesses, strong communities, and meaningful relationships.
The celebration may last a day.
The work behind it lasts much longer.

Final Thoughts
The only downside to the entire experience was that I never actually got to eat inside the restaurant.
Thankfully, takeout exists.
As I left, I kept thinking about how many opportunities we have to celebrate growth in North Texas. New businesses continue to arrive. New relationships continue to form. New stories continue to unfold.
And while the ribbon cuttings are exciting, the real story is often found in the work that happens before the crowd arrives.
Because whether you're serving orange chicken, leading a team, or building a community, great experiences rarely happen by accident.
They happen through preparation, intentionality, and people working together toward a common goal.
That perspective is worth remembering long after the doors open.
